Brandon Matthews earns status on PGA Web.com Tour.

Scranton, PA – Local golf standout Brandon Matthews earned a spot on the PGA Web.com Tour for 2018, based on his finish in last weeks Web.com Tour Qualifying Tournament at the Whirlwind Golf Club’s Devil’s Claw (DC) and Cattail (TC) courses in Chandler Arizona.
 
Brandon carded rounds of 70-68-65-71, for a -14 total and a 42nd place finish, earning a $10,000 payday and more importantly status for 2018 on the PGA Web.com Tour. The finish gives Brandon entry in the first eight events in 2018 before the “reshuffle”, and is the next step in the pursuit of his dream of playing full-time on the PGA Tour.

Peckville, PA - At its recent Challenge Cup, the Anthracite Golf Association  presented it's Player of the Year & Senior Player of the Year for 2017.  The Player of the Year awards are given by the top point earners throughout the season based on points for their respective finishes in each AGA golf tournament. 

The 2017 Anthracite Golf Association Player of the Year is Honesdale Golf Club's Eric Williams.

Hanover, PA - On Wednesday, October 25th, 2017 the Anthracite Golf Association held it's rescheduled Robinson Fall Fourball Tournament at Wyoming Valley Country Club.

Wyoming Valley Country Club's Eric Plisko & Joe Weiscarger combined to card an incredible round of 12-under par 58 to take the Open Division Title.

Hanover, PA - Wyoming Valley Country Club captured the 67th Anthracite Golf Association Coal Scuttle Championship today for the third consecutive year. The two time defending champions opened up with a round of 290 at Elmhurst Country Club.  The team followed their opening round to combine for a 285 in round 2 at their home course of Wyoming Valley Country Club.  The two day total of 575 was good enough to take the title by 24 shots.
 
Emanon Country Club (599) finished in second and Glenmaura National Golf Club (60) 1finished in third.

Exeter, PA - On Wednesday, August 30th Fox Hill Country Club successfully defended its Anthracite Golf Association Super Senior Coal Scuttle title.  Fox Hill Country Club carded a round of 224 to capture the team title for the third consecutive year.

The format was 4 players 65+, counting 3 scores.  Leading the way for the champions was Bill Lawler who  finished at even par 71.   Ed Hennigan finished just one shot back for the team with a round of 72.  Rounding out the team for the champions were Frank Berman (81) and Jim Devers (82).

Crystal Lake, PA - On Wednesday August 23rd at Elkview Country Club, the team from the Country Club of Scranton captured the 2017 Anthracite Golf Association Senior Coal Scuttle Championship. 

The Country Club of Scranton combined for a 309 total, good enough for a one shot victory over Elmhurst Country Club (310) and the Scranton Muni. Golf Club (310).


Leading the way for the team champions, Country Club of Scranton, was Mike Vassil and Brian Corbett who each carded rounds of 76. The other scores for the winning team were Jim Tressler (77), Bill Brown (80), and John Voight (85)

Clarks Summit, PA - Friday, August 11th the Anthracite Golf Association conducted it's annual Junior Fourball Invitational Tournament.  The event showcased some of the top players in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New Yorks Southern Tier at host Country Club of Scranton.

This years event was captured by players representing the New Jersey State Golf Association, Joseph Lostumbo & Erik Stevens combined to shoot a 5-under par 67 to take the title. The duo shot 1-over par 36 on the front nine, before Erik Stevens birdied 6 of the 9 holes coming in, combined with his partner to card a 31 on the inward nine.

Moosic, PA - Glenmaura National Golf Club was the host site for the 2017 AGA Founders Fourball Tournament where the team of Brad Flickinger (C.C. of Scranton) and Bob Zaleski  (Emanon C.C.) combined for  a 6-under par 65 to win the overall title.  The team combined for 8 birdies, including 5 in a row, to win the title by 1 shot.  

Finishing in second place were irem Countr Club's Jonathan Wilson and Logan Paczewski who carded a round of 5-under pa 66.

Shavertown, PA - Logan Paczewski, Dallas, captured  the 2017 Association Junior Tournament of Champions at Huntsville Golf Club.  After Round 1 at Fox Hill Country Club was cancelled due to summer storms the tournament was reduced to 18 holes at Huntsville Golf Club.  Paczewski fired a round of 1-over par 73 to capture the title by 3 shots.   
 
Logan Paczewski who is only 13 becomes the youngest champion in the event history edging out Duke University Golf Alumni Andrew Beiber who was also 13 when he etched his name on the Art Wall Jr. Trophy with a win in 2008.

Moscow, PA – Brett James Wagner or Cresco captured the 2017 AGA Lawler Junior Tour at Elmhurst Country Club with an oustanding round of 2-under par 70. Troy Keller, Clarks Summit, finished in second just two shots back with a round of even-par 72. Billy Pabst, Elmhurst, and Kyle Pillar, Hawley, each carded rounds of 74 to finish tied for third place.

In the girls division Jessica McClellan or Freeland carded a round of 80 to win the girl's title by seven shots. Of the win Jessica said “I was happy with the win, but I am dissapointed to make a bogey on 18 to miss breaking the 80 mark.”
